Kiska ran in front of a car last night and was killed instantly. Farrell and Jon laid her to rest this morning in the yard that she loved. Instead of fighting the emptiness I feel today I thought I would spend some time thinking about her and acknowledge the big part of our families life that she has been.
Kiska was independent, but if you had a moment to spare she was happy to be a part of your life. She roamed our acre lot and was queen of her domain. Her trails through the grass in the yard will be there to remind us of her for a long time! How many pups have their own mountain range, pond full of ducks (at least once a week when we irrigate), & personal apartment (the back step complete with bed and food bowl).
You would think a yard like that would be enough but it wasn't. She loved to roam! Anytime a board would come loose in the fence, she would find it and be off on another adventure! After eight years we just came to expect to find her laying on the front step in the morning!
Kiska was good natured. She gladly shared her food with "Chubs" the squirrel and every sparrow in Boise. But would growl if another pup got the same idea. She never cared much for chasing a ball you threw, but would happily watch you run after it! She was dignified and she knew it!
Kiska would interrupt her busy routine and take you for a walk any time you asked! She had to be the lead dog. She had me well trained. We covered many a mile together - I will miss our walks! Especially our Christmas time walks to look at lights in the neighborhood at night! And our early morning walks when the sun wasn't up yet. She made me feel safe!
She hated bath time but endured it patiently! When the opportunity arose, she shook that glorious fur and sprayed us everytime. I think she smiled inside when she did that!
I think most of all Kiska liked guarding our home from intruders and hot air balloons! Every morning you would find her patiently sitting on the patio and looking toward the sunrise just daring a balloon to come near us! Yap, yap, yap she would call us all to her aid! Oh, Kiska. I don't know that the neighbors will miss you, but I will! I'll keep on the guard for you!
Bye Bye Kiska! Say hi to Tasha and Mandy for me!! I'll be seeing you!
We're so cool!

A kiss from a friend!
